Flame Shield® is a specially formulated ModWood board with a fire retardant additive included. Until now decking board options for bushfire-prone areas were limited; however, this has all changed. Flame Shield® can be used in BAL-12.5, BAL-19, BAL-29 and BAL-40 areas and gives you a traditional timber decking look and feel.

Flame Shield® is tested and certified to (AS 3959-2018). bushfire attack level from BAL-12.5 up to and including BAL-40. Flame Shield® is a specially formulated ModWood with a fire retardant additive included.

Flame Shield® has the highest BAL rating compared to other timber-based decking in the Australian marketplace. Flame Shield® can be installed with either an enclosed* or unenclosed sub-structure and is offered in all four colours of the ModWood Natural Grain Collection, wide board 137 x 23mm. Additionally; Flame Shield® also has a deep embossed pattern on the board surface to improve slip resistance and is manufactured to R11, AS 4586:2013

Does Flame Shield® require special maintenance?

No, it doesn’t. None of our composite decking requires painting, staining, or sealing — and this includes our Flame Shield® products. With just regular washes with water and mild detergent, you will be able to preserve the high-quality finish of your Flame Shield® decking.

What will happen if my Flame Shield® decking is caught in a fire?

As Flame Shield® has a BAL-40 rating, it is designed to withstand high levels of radiant heat and ember attacks. However, it is important to note that no material is completely fireproof. In the event of a fire, Flame Shield® will significantly reduce the spread of flames in comparison to traditional timber decking, and will contribute less to fires as natural wood does.
